Designer's Tips for Photomontages

 

Of course what you want to include in your montage is entirely up to you, but you may find it useful to read these do’s and don’ts from the designers at PicMagic before selecting the images to send to us.

 

Do...

 

...make sure your images are at the right size - between 500k to 1.5mb is usually perfect.  Any smaller and the images could start to become pixelated, any larger and the files become unmanageable. Your Feature Image (see above) should be at least 1mb as this will be reproduced at a larger size than the other images.

 

...include images that best represent the subject of the montage, and restrict these to the very best ones you have. The montage will be far more effective using fewer, better images as opposed to using a multitude of images of varying quality.

 

...think about where the montage will be displayed, and if there is a dominant or feature colour in the room then make sure you tell us. We can then make sure the background colour used on the montage is compatible.

 

...look at the examples on the PicMagic website and see if there is a particular style you like - we will be happy to base your design on a similar layout and colour.

 

Don't...

 

...cram too much in! If the montage is too crowded it will look like wallpaper rather than a considered piece of design.

 

...add a title for the sake of it. If your images tell the story, there probably isn’t a need to add any additional text elements like ‘Our Holiday’ or Gran’s Birthday’!

 

...crop any of the images. We need as much background as possible to blend images together and will crop them to fit the space available only when necessary.

 

...mix and match subjects. A single theme gives purpose and consistency to the montage, and gives it much more impact.
